What is acupuncture?

Simply put, acupuncture is the practice of inserting thin single use sterile needles into points on the body to help the body heal itself. Helping relieve pain, strengthen the body and alleviate symptoms of disease.

What does it feel like?

Different. Many people can’t explain what it feels like to them and some people may not feel much at all. People ask if it hurts, and no. You may feel a slight pinch when the needle is inserted, but at most points people don’t even feel that.

I’m feeling good, but still want to try acupuncture, is it worth it?

Yes, it is absolutely worth it! Keeping symptoms away is what the goal of acupuncture is, so acupuncture, even once a month, when you don’t have symptoms is a smart choice. And sometimes, people come in and during intake realize they have symptoms they didn’t know could be helped with acupuncture.

I’m afraid of needles!

I’ve had many people come in afraid of needles and they are always surprised at how easy getting acupuncture is. Most of them leave happy they experienced acupuncture, and many have fallen asleep on the table. And after the effects, most return for a follow up treatment.

Do you take insurance?

I don’t take insurance at this time, but can supply you with a super-bill to send to your insurance company to get reimbursed if your policy allows.

Explanation of acupuncture in more of a western medicine view:

Needling and needle manipulation can produce effects on the body and brain. Some theories believe stimulated nerve fibers will send signals to the brain and spinal cord leading to the release of hormones which can help with pain and putting the body into a “rest and digest” state rather than a “fight or flight” state. Studies have shown that acupuncture can increase the pain threshold, which can effect long term pain relief, this was shown with images of brain activity. Increased blood flow, decreased cholesterol and triglycerides levels, affect white blood cell activity and thus immunity, regulate blood sugar levels, may also all be effects from acupuncture.
